Carrickfergus Borough Council is responsible for managing and developing Carrickfergus Community Services/Development strategies for service resource provision, development of services, policies and targeting financial provision, to ensure the successful implementation of the Council’s Mission Statement for Community Services/Development.

Services are delivered by a variety of means:-

  • Reception Services

This facility is open for business between the hours of 0900 and 1700 at the Community Services General Office and 0830 and 2300 at the Oakfield Community Development Centre.

It is administered by trained staff to specified standards as listed in the Operating Procedures Manual.

The Service delivered was established under a Statutory Order in 1976 following a Working Party’s recommendations on the provision of such a service. The Order introduced four main aspects of a Community Service function to the 26 District Councils in Northern Ireland. These were: ~

  • Provision to create capital projects with associated programming for their use (Community Centres)
  • Advice giving to community/voluntary organizations on constitutions and a range of other issues impacting on the voluntary/community sector
  • Financial assistance from small seeding grants, through to administrative, programme and capital grants
  • Resource facilities which may attract grants for recurring costs and employment of skilled workers such as Community Development Workers

  • Community Centres

  • Grants

Other services and partnership opportunities have since fallen under the responsibility of the the Development Manager (Community) including; - Good Relations, District Policing Partnership and Community Safety Partnership, details of which can be accessed on the website.
