Over 65 Home Safety Checks
Did you know that if you are aged over 65 and live in the Carrickfergus Borough Council area, then you are entitled to a free home safety check?
Can I have a Free Home Safety Check?
YES, providing you are
- aged 65 or more, and
- live in the Carrickfergus Borough Council area.
What is a Home Safety Check?
It is an opportunity to help identify risks and provide you with the information, advice and support that you may need to make your home safer.
To request a FREE Home Safety Check, or for more information about this friendly and confidential service please contact Council’s Environmental Health Section on 028 9335 8080.
What happens then?
An officer will contact you and a convenient time for a visit will be arranged. During the visit useful advice and information can be provided along with FREE home safety equipment if suitable.
Why are we running this scheme?
Every year in Northern Ireland around 70,000 people attend hospital and 100 people die as a result of an accident in the home. However, most accidents can be prevented and this is why this and other initiatives are undertaken. We want to raise awareness and support people to help make sure they don’t become another "statistic"!
Are you involved in a Group?
We can also provide home safety information, literature, talks to local groups and information stands at events, all free of charge. Please call us to see how we can help your group.
This service is provided by Carrickfergus Borough Council in partnership with Home Accident Prevention Carrickfergus, with funding from the Public Health Agency/Northern Investing for Health Partnership.
